Old School Indeed

This little gem wow, hesitated to post this sonic gem cause this place isn't about politics and this is sort of a political Lp but ya know what don't matter cause this is The History of the Democratic Party up until 1956 why that matters, don't know but enjoy as it definitely drops some knowledge in yer box

Helpful Hint of the Day

Go Here, Go Now There Happy!, knew you would be, How this gem got away from me for so long is beyond me but thanks SB for putting me on the trail.

A Long Time Ago In A galaxy Far Far Away

Well not that long ago (hm yea it was dude your old) and not that far away (ok ya got me there) a cat named Dennis Driscoll began the adventure of teenage life in New York in the 70's. Several years ago he began to smash out these memories into compelling and transporting spoken word tales. For a while there unless you knew Denny personally or were fortunate enough to catch him reading live you missed out on the experience.
Dennis hearing the plea of his admirers which included the band Ween and a whole cavalcade of thinkin' & drinkin' artists from Jim Carrol to Joe Strummer (RIP) he put em' on a disc and started a web site  you can stream one his tales here.and get the whole scoop on Dennis and his Inwood Tales series in an  interview with him.
I urge you to check Dennie's work it's so damn good as you know I love spoken word and Dennis and Mark have taken it to the next level both in content and delivery.

Remember Him

It's one of " Those" years man, Lots of heavy heavies are dis-incorporating and moving beyond this realm. Popped into the most excellent Funky 16 and read that Mr. Louis Chachere has passed, who if you've been paying attention gave us the superlative organ groove  "The Hen" that was the corner stone to the Vital Organs compilation ( still up here somewhere, search it out baby...) that This Guy That Guy and I put out back in the 90's.
Music and Wordsmith Larry over at Funky 16 offers an amazing audio memorial,as well as a much fuller more better written piece on Mr Chachere.
Thanks Mr. Chachere Rest Easy...

Fun For Everyone!

Been vibing nostalgic of late, which is tough for me cause I don't actually dig to much on nostalgic thought dusting off the past through rose colored glasses just seems so eh anyway I don't know just never was one to get too caught up in that trip I'm a loyal friend and have lots of peeps i can sit about with and talk about that type of stuff but we're usually to busy thinking about the now, but after watching this clip the other night a wave washed over me.
I was really really Lucky when i was pup over all I feel real fortunate to have walked in my shoes in this life meeting and knowing the people I know and have known has been a treat some

The below clip speaks for it self. Graffiti is/was nothing new to me, growing up all my friends did it and i mean ALL. I did not participate as I wasn't very good at it and back then you had better be able to rock a font with style and grace or the ridicule would be harsh and endless.
Luckily enough for me several of my friends were some of the original big guns of Graff not necessarily the first seeds but the cats who took it to the next level, above tagging your name or nickname with or without your street or building number under it plus arrows and crowns etc... or quickly splattering some Krylon or Rust O on a wall or those harsh and ugly gray trains.
No these kids planned carefully tip toed in and really turn on the city .... man to see a Technicolor subway car roll into a station was like the ending scene in Pleasantville really it was, and having the cool factor of knowing the unknown was well real cool and hell they knew me too so that was cool for them as well truthfully there was so much going on for us during our youth having the run of New York City as our playground was an incredibly good time....
I sincerely hope today's kids are having as much or even more fun as we did anyway here's the clip that got me thinking of all this [there's a prize if you spot the brother] here's a link just in case the video doesn't play In the next post I'll say more

Cheese Us

Dog days indeed hopefully for you they are shade filled and restful and your heads aren't being to done in by all the as Mr. T says jibber jabber going on in the world.

Not much has changed in the last 30 or so years as reported by the fabulous Hildegard Knef on this spectacular ditty Holiday_Time it's jarring that so little has progressed in the time since it's release in 1967 or it's re-release in 2005 on this excellent imprint

dig it's been a while and there's a lot of catching up to do I missed participating in Vinyl Record Day which is a great idea, mark the date and celebrate it every year. I got presented the news on it form this gent who wrote this e-book about collecting vinyl and A+ for effort and much good info.

Got a whole lot of Ranting i'd like to share with ya's but time is tight just thought since it's the last bit of those lazy days od summer and from the requestes to repost this would be fun here's the
Silly_Surfers for ya and the Big Bad Mutha Fuka mix is down for repairs and adjustments ( there will however NEVER be a playlist for it Apologies but the intention was to spark interest not make it easy following the trail of bread crumbs is a lot more fun than having someone drive you to the top  of the mountain at least were funky grooves are concerned i mean it is actually better to literally be driven to the top of a mountain ...

Please Remove Your Speaker

yea yea long time blah blah woof woof yea lots of motion in life, Will be working my way back to more frequent attention to this place soon. But found this tonight now I'm sure this has already been Boing Boinged or Bedazzled and more than likely every last one of you is already aware of it and I'm the last guy once again, but just on the off chance some one pops in and hasn't seen it had to point to this treasure trove of A/V fabulosity

Unrealistic Crushes

Sometime back in 78, discovered Joan Jett ( talk about unrealistic crushes) i mean i knew about The Runaways (C-C-C-Cherry BOMB!) but never really paid them much no never mind but when she Dropped Bad Reputation on her first soloish Lp, [she was the front and name of the band but there were the Blackhearts bang it out too) was a fan for life and in all these years she has never disappointed her version of I love Rock & Roll excites a room to this day. She's one of Rock's Goddesses and we are not worthy and on and on etc. etc. wow! just how Kool is Joan Jett she's got 2 names and ya don't call her just one of them for a start ...anyways she got a new Lp out and some MPFrees™ for our tasting pleasure can you dig it, i knew that you could.... (Second link same as the first just in case and Ups to Freeindie.com which is always worth a peep)

Value What Is Necessary

I don't know about you all, I'm about to burst, seems like so much is out of sync with my own sense of right & wrong, many years ago noticed that things i saw or knew to be false where taken as gospel truth by many more people than saw my perception of the situation, and a host of other " my brain is hanging upside down" moments (great Ramones song by the by)
Also noticed that people where less and less likely to say thank you or even understand that you've done them a good deed and I'm not just talking about small kindnesses but big ass hook ups and many times over the last several years I've received the Golden "F**K YOU for helping me"  I've been pretty floored by some of the people in my life who have pulled this stunt....
This constant grade school level BS is well just that and it ain't just me, I've spoken to too many Brothers and Sisters lately that have been tracking this awful trend in human relations don't know if it's our age, the environment of our times, all of the above or just my own personal myopic karma but it seems to be getting hairier and hairier at a much quicker pace than ever before.
So the whole point of this yammer is that I found some tunes that comment on these and other current issues better than i ever could done by C/Si™ dig them and get back to me there might be a quiz....

I never ever really cared about them either way but it seems like there's an even greater fascination and getting worked up about cele"brat"ies and the culture of them, yes it's been bad for a long time with this but it's reaching Everest peaks which is horrific, if you like me believe that this is yet another pivotal point in human history, no offense to the celb's out there, well maybe a little bit to a few of em', yea yea, i know the ruling elite media [Liberal or Neo Con take yer pick] wants to keep us stupid and there plying us with all this yada yada....i don't really buy that line, these media outlets are businesses which while they might have to answer to a governing body or even government sell what people want and if people didn't want it ie: no one watched it, bought it, surfed it or put up with it they'd switch gears pretty quickly. Even the so called news channels now have way to much celeb info in between their hard hitting celeb talking heads sugar coating stuff or grabbing a moment to propel themselves into the uber celeb stratosphere oi vey I think it was Pogo who said "I've met the enemy and the enemy is us" here's a slogan " Turn it Off, Tune In, Wake Up!"

Voting machines with no paper trail that can be hacked by almost anyone seems to be just a tad bit more important than who's zooming who, electronic voting without checks and balances isn't just bad for one side of the issues it's bad for all, even if the people who control the machines seem to be how do you say diametrically opposed to most i hold dear.

I wonder if the media (Web and Terrestrial) took one week off from giving a hoot about which dimwits is having a problem with their poisons (is it really our business anyway) and discuss this and the other pressing issues confronting us if we'd see and up tick in involvement or has apathy got us gripped so tightly that we can't see the forest cause of the trees...

HBO has got this documentary coming out looks like it's worth a peep, and not to kick a good thing why release this only a week away from E-Day it should be out now and shown daily oh yea one more thing on this subject IF YOU DON"T VOTE your really outta line and letting them ( whomever you perceive as them) win, also if you don't vote please don't talk politics to me at all as voting is what can effect change (if the booths ain't rigged, and a host of other dishonest unjust unethical behavior, my mom said we should all just wear Blue or Red hats and the satellites will tell us who's won..)  I'm hip to the fact that people can be manipulated and votes bought and Joe Kennedy's famous quote about buying a landslide..... however this electronic boondoggle (no paper trail what evil genius thought that one up?) by passes a whole lot of people issues and takes the sport out of any vote regardless of which side of any issue you happen to be on...

Alright I'll shut up for a bit and there much better articulations and even great dialog going on about this stuff I'm spewing about here and I could go on and on but the ranting of an old man just ain't that sexy knowwhati'msaying

love my Apple MPFree™(C/Si™)  player but this was too good not to share with ya and I've been having some fun with this here spot and just in case here's the link again to some really "dynamite" music C/Si™  thinking peoples blues

Well Thanks for reading the rant don't know what got over me this place is usually about Music and odd bits of ephemera and still is i'm not going all ranty on ya's But feel more than ever that now is the time for all of us to get involved in making this realm work, whatever your leanings get up off the couch chair and do some good, the distractions will still be there when you get back, and you might find that the sweet person you met while doing something for others is more entertaining than lonley girl15 (yawn) or whatever.....

A huge tip of the hat and Thank You to those who endeavor the Garbage Collectors the Butchers the Plumbers the Mechanics the Post People the Hospital Workers, Cops, Fire Peoples, Teachers, Cabbies, EMS Crews, Cable Installers, Yardworkers,Secretaries, The people who Cleaning the streets, even the snotty pricks who work at Fourbucks and music stores, the folks at the ticket office....Hard working under paid rarely appreciated and sometime ridiculed People working the line and walking the line everyday so that we can do the fun stuff these are celebraties to me and most are much more kind & interesting or would be if they weren't made to feel like less than by our times which seem to worship materail and fame over what just might really matter in the end.
To all of you who line up to buy $300 sneakers or even $500 lp's (it's a scam, sell em' now while ya can and buy some land...)
Can we Please Please respect each other as it is the most important aspect of any activity casual, political, social business whatever and there seems to be so little of it..
we don't have to agree but we don't have to act like idiots while we figure out a way to move forward into the future instead of taking all these big leaps backwards either, and name calling and mud slinging is a waste of time. solutions and questions and dialog is where i dance where do you dance.......

For those if us fortunate enough to live near wifi-ny's signal we know they're reliable affordable and all round goodniks and now the groover's of Williamsburg's McCarren Park Pool thought i think it's technically in Greenpoint but i'm just guessing and the borders out in the old hood are sort of weird when i was camping out there years ago my ZIp code was Williamsburg Everything else was Greenpoint and the Phone and Cable compny's said i was in Maspbeth Queens huh? anyway The overly hip can now are receiving the love to and it gets better really Hell Yea it does cause the wifi-ny crew (which i think is just one very righteous cat) wants to offer this treat to parks and public green type spots city wide but it's gonna cost some loot so they got this pixel deal happing if ya want to give to a good cause and get some link props for your site check it Now

The Dog Year's, Dog Day's

Seems like just yesterday i was rolling on the floor of the Greenwich Theatre hurtin' from laughter when i heard --"The title of that book should've been, Yes i can if Frank Sinatra Says it's OK" (Bruno Kirby RIP) was effected more so than usual when hearing of this sad news, every time someone goes to the great unknown there's that damn this life is so short thought and time really does slip into the future rather rapidly these days something else my elders warned me about that as a pup i paid no head to.

typing of time and it's quick passing it's obvious that I've Been paying no never mind to this here space for too long, Doing a site man, it's a bit of work usually done in the off hours wonder where they have gone now hahaha

Most comments have been great and uplifting there's always the few that leave me scratching me head. As well as those of you who just were looking to put name to beat to you i have to say to those who've requested a track list for the various mixes that don't have the track info in the file ..."hey man I'd like one too" but i did mention in the posts body text (does anyone read the posts attached to a sound or video file?) that the mixes featured here where done with what i refer to as "Blind DJ Momentum" and backwards engineering smells of adding to a workload that needs no addition at the moment (although if any of ya need some Design/Marketing type assistance tap me) the track lists might happen one day who knows, but for the time being - accept my apologies and dig around you might not find out the name of the song but baby you might just find jewels of sonic pleasure for you to share with the rest of us, and yo there are so many great music spaces out here in the digital realm many of which you can find links to right here.

Looks like Frank is morphing once again

The Cassette Tape Museum rediscovered

This might come in handy one day

Well needless to say the Hiatus is waining and things should or rather could get jumping around RB HQ once again if you must know or care I've been vibeing a bit neg as of late, seems as much as i thought i had, still haven't sussed out many of the mysteries of this life and it's seeming inequities
if that make any sense. Navel Gazing might not solve the problem but it makes the burn go away

A big heal up swiftly goes out to Ken Wilber, who had a fall and injured himself and despite his injuries is still doing the event with Traleg Rinpoche on September 8th & 9th

I'm still not completely dug into the idea/concept of western mind being competent in showing one the eastern way especially when there are so many great teachers from the east around but this guy Ken has got some balls and seems to have respect for the source of much of his root information and the Elders that supplied it also the dudes been through some shit so let's give him the rope and see what he does with it.... ( I'm impressed and think of myself as about as cynical and jaded as one can get)

Alright here's the goodness, now  if you've read through my preamble to get to these wonder jems of audio delight then you my friend are in for a treat even if you didn't waste your time reading the disjointed rant above your in for a treat...

Here are the first 2 Volumes of some tasty crunchy S.O.U.L and not just any olde soul dig it's that Dirty Gritty Soul, as we like it, don't get me wrong silky smooth soul is mighty fine especially if yer courting a particular paramour but to really put "More cut in your strut, glide in your stride & the dip in your hips" baby it's gotta have some stank on it, which these 30+ tracks got to spare, so get yourself together here! we're gonna stomp our feet shake our hands and get down like it was church or something.

These morsels came my way via these awesome comps that came out only on Vinyl back in 88 or earlier there might have been more but i got 4 of em' and like i already said here the first two be gentle no hot linking and no server overload huh the good folks at typepad have been very understanding but as the old man used to say "you never know how much luck ya had until it runs out"

ok enough enjoy and look for the rest soon ( like in the next few days soon not when ever soon)

till then

Health, Wealth, Family, Friends and Lovers and the time to enjoy them...

despite many efforts vol 1 refuses to load right and i'll reup it in a day do not know what happened hmmmm...
